1992 Year of Space Proof Coin

The 1992 $5 coin was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to celebrate the International Year of Space, highlighting Australia’s contributions to space technology and research. 

The coin is made of aluminium-bronze and features a proof strike, which gives it a highly polished, mirror-like finish. 

The obverse displays the 3rd Portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael David Maklouf,  while the reverse design, created by John Skillington, was selected through a nationwide design competition.
